What the statistics tell us about falls:
- Falls are the leading cause of death amongst seniors
- 1 in every 3 adults over the age of 65 will fall this year. (Center for Disease Control)
- 60% of falls happen in the home
- 75% of those who have fallen, will fall again
- Only 11% of fall victims were found by family members
- The average time spent incapacitated is 18 hours (CDC)
- After a fall, 90% of people who get help within one hour will continue independent living, but after 12 hours without help only 10% of people will continue to live at home. (New England Journal of Medicine)
Facts about traditional emergency alert systems:
- 50% of medical pendant users wear them. Typically, you will take your pendant off at night or during another part of the day and simply forget to put it back on. That is the time of greatest danger to the senior.
- 50% of seniors who actually wear the pendant use them. Many seniors will tell us they just didn’t think of pressing the button because of the stressful situation they were in at the time.
- 50% of seniors who wear the pendant cannot use them. If you have fallen and are incapacitated in some way, what good is a panic button if you cannot press it?
Intelligent Personal Monitoring is the answer.
Simply put, i-PERS can save lives. If you fall or become incapable of pressing your alert pendant, i-PERS is going to sense the condition and send an alert to your “Circle of Know” – your family, neighbor, caregivers, or all of them – at the same time. There is no “call tree” to wait to see if someone answers. Wireless messages will be transmitted saving valuable minutes which can save your life.
